Cadbury Shows Two Men Sharing Crème Egg, Sparks Petition For ‘Sexualizing Candy’

Cadbury UK is getting some heat from parents over its Crème Egg commercial.
The ad, which is created to celebrate 50 years of the iconic chocolate egg, did not sit well with viewers, with many claiming it’s sexualizing a candy while showcasing a homosexual couple. A petition has also been launched, demanding the advertisement to be removed from the air.
The commercial features different people enjoying the sugary dessert in different ways, including dipping, licking, or baking with it.
What made much upset was the last scene of the ad. “We are down with that,” the voiceover said as the men shared the Crème Egg kiss.
“Cadbury is a well-established household name who deliberately market their products towards families and children; therefore, it is unacceptable that they should seek to expose children to an image which is so clearly hyper-sexualized,” the petition reads.
However, many people have come to the defense of the spot, stating that people are overreacting.
“People losing their minds over two men kissing over a Crème Egg but have no problem with a woman cheating on her husband with an M&M?” one Twitter user asked, referencing an M&M advertisement.
Others poked fun at the clip, stating that it insinuates that one should be sharing the Crème Egg with their partners instead of indulging all on their own.
“The Cadbury’s Crème Egg advert with two men kissing is diverse and dangerous because it promotes the unacceptable idea that you should be expected to share your Crème Egg with another person,” a tweet read.
Another Twitter user commented,”I’m disgusted by this. I would never share a Crème Egg with my husband.”
“Cadbury has always been a progressive brand that spreads a message of inclusion, whether it is through its products or brand campaigns,” the company said on Twitter. “We are proud of our Golden Goobilee advert which celebrates the many ways that everyone can enjoy a Cadbury Crème Egg.”

Just to let you know that your Creme Egg advert featuring gay men is wholly inappropriate. I do not believe that you would do this with a heterosexual couple, but it seems homosexuality has to be promoted far more explicitly.
