Canon’s Cute Dancing Concept Camera Will Be Your New Favorite Desk Partner

Unlike that coworker who used to come into the office drunk, this adorable desk mate wobbles around for your own good. Canon’s latest camera concept leans left and right to keep your posture in place, because goodness knows how much you’ve been slouching at your home office seat these days.
The ‘Canon Posture Fit’, spotted by Digital Camera World, is a miniature Pixar character-like experimental camera that monitors your sitting position by dancing. Designer Taguchi came up with this idea after noticing that his wife had been suffering shoulder stiffness since working from home.
“I use this device on my desk,” the designer explained in a video. “When you sit down, it raises its head and looks around to find someone, then starts monitoring.” From there, the WALL-E-like device observes two things: whether you’ve been sitting for too long, and if your posture isn’t ideal.
If its desk partner hasn’t left his or her seat in 60 minutes, the Canon Posture Fit will send out a reminder to stand up and have a rest.
More importantly, it alerts you of continued poor posture, which can cause strain to your body, by wobbling about to get your attention, much like a cute pet.
Taguchi said the camera originally appeared like a webcam, but he thought it looked too intrusive. In fact, the gadget doesn’t even record your face or surroundings, but simply monitors your spinal position.
The Canon Posture Fit is simply experimental, so it’s unclear if the company will eventually make it a reality for the masses. In the meantime, how about setting your eyes on this very real Panasonic farting robot pet that keeps you company during social isolation?
