Meet ‘Lia’, The Flushable Home Pregnancy Test That Aims To Reduce Plastic Waste

Health company Lia has launched a flushable and biodegradable pregnancy test. The innovative pregnancy test is developed by Lia founders Bethany Edwards and Anna Couturier as an alternative to plastic ones, which typically end up in landfills.

The sustainable solution analyzes your urine for small amounts of hCG and is said to be more than 99-percent accurate at detecting pregnancy when used on the day following a missed period, per the company’s website.

Lia contains zero plastic. Instead, the test is made from a natural plant fiber called cellulose that biodegrades in 10 weeks. According to the company, you can flush the test after use or add it to your compost bin. Either way, your personal results will stay private.

Thanks to its innovative design, you can also save the results of the Lia test. Simply dry the test out, cut off and dispose of the bottom half where you peed on, and pop the result window in your baby book.

Lia’s two-pack pregnancy tests are available to purchase online for US$13.99, and delivery will take one to three business days.
