Qatar Looks To Open Spinning ‘Eco-Floating Hotel’ With 152 Rooms

Qatar—home to a diversity of state-of-the-art architecture—aspires to build a 376,000-square-foot floating hotel as a sustainable spin on luxurious accommodation.
The stunning project, named the Eco-Floating Hotel, is designed by Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio (HAADS) and envisioned to be located off-shore with the support of floating platforms. It would feature 152 rooms, a rotating restaurant, and a sustainable system for wind, solar energy and water, New Atlas reports.
The building is conceptualized as a giant glass doughnut with a vortex roof, which collects rainwater and supplies an indoor waterfall. Apart from fulfilling an aesthetic purpose, the rainwater would be used to irrigate greenery surrounding the hotel’s exterior, as well as generate tidal energy with seawater to power areas of the facility.
In addition, parts of the Eco-Floating Hotel would be powered by solar panels and wind turbines.
The hotel would include private balconies, a gym, spa, sauna, and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Guests would be able to get to the building via a pier connected to the shore, or by taking a boat or helicopter.
The prospect of getting dizzy won’t be part of the package, as the Eco-Floating Hotel is designed to revolve so slowly that it would take 24 hours to complete a full round. The spinning motion would be maneuvered via a dynamic positioning system constructed with thrusters and propellers.
Feasibility and technical research is underway, and if everything goes according to plan, HAADS expects for the Eco-Friendly Hotel to be completed by 2025.
