Yahoo Answers Is Shutting Down Forever, Bringing An Era To A Close

Once a popular fixture of the Web 2.0 era, Yahoo Answers won’t be around for much longer. The user-generated Q&A site, launched back in 2005, will be shutting down on May 4, the company announced.
Starting April 20, the site will no longer be accepting new submissions and will only be available to read until May 4. Users will be able to export a copy of their questions and answers till June 30, but will not be able to download other users’ content.
It’s difficult to say the decline of one of the longest-running Q&A sites hasn’t been coming. According to AI-based tech company Quantcast, via Input, Yahoo Answers had 24 million monthly active users in January 2010, which plummeted by 77 percent by November 2015.
In the meantime, other Q&A sites such as Quora have risen to popularity, while Yahoo Answers’ decline in quality has not gone unnoticed.
In a statement to active members, Yahoo said, “While Yahoo Answers was once a key part of Yahoo’s products and services, it has become less popular over the years as the needs of our members have changed.” It also stated that the company had decided to “shift our resources away from Yahoo Answers to focus on products that better serve our members.”
The company has assured users that the closure of Yahoo Answers will not affect Yahoo accounts or other services.
