As a toast to diversity, Starbucks Japan has rolled out assorted color-changing cups representing a rainbow. And they’re not just for aesthetics—sales from the drinkware will help boost an awareness campaign for acceptance in the country.
The four sheer cups, which start out as blue, green, pink, and yellow, gradually change their hues when you pour iced drinks into them. And with warmer days on the horizon, Starbucks expects that customers will appreciate this fun visual detail as they order more cold beverages.
The collection’s release is an act of support for the Rainbow School Project, which aspires to educate junior and senior high school students about diversity and the LGBTQ community.
Priced at ¥2,860 (US$26) for a full set, the cups will help fund some of the movement’s awareness initiatives, with 10 percent of proceeds being dedicated to the Rainbow School Project.
