Apple’s event invites often spur a wild hunt for Easter eggs, and its latest teaser for the
April 20 keynote should be drawing a similar effect.
Having observed numerous Apple promos from the past, though, users have wisened up to the possibility that—apart from the event date—the graphics don’t reveal much else but the default wallpaper of a new product.
9to5Mac’s Parker Ortolani illustrated this pattern with
visual comparisons between previous invites and the wallpapers of forthcoming flagship devices. He also noted in a
detailed article that this has been the case for four years, although some clues have been more subtle than others.
For instance, the invites for last September’s Time Flies and October’s Hi, Speed keynotes depicted variations of iPad Air and iPhone 12 wallpapers.
There have been a few outliers that don’t offer clues about new products or wallpapers, like the 2018 Gather Round invite portraying the Apple Park as a nod to the event’s venue.
So, in the case of the April 20 event graphic, it’s possible that the device to be announced—believed by the rumor mill to be
an iPad Pro—will be installed with a rainbow gradient background. Though, if you ask us, the pen strokes in it do hint at a touchscreen functionality, hence pointing at the release of an iPad.
