Gucci Family Rebukes Creative Choices Of Film Starring Lady Gaga & Adam Driver

The family behind high-fashion brand Gucci has come out to criticize House of Gucci, a new film starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver about the 1995 murder of Maurizio Gucci. Director Ridley Scott had been partnering with the luxury fashion house, with Gucci allowing movie producers access to its archives.
However, it seems the partnership may have begun to sour as Patrizia Gucci, a second-cousin to Maurizio, has claimed the film isn’t true to life. Speaking on behalf of the Gucci family, she told The Associated Press, “we are truly disappointed.” She added, “[The filmmakers] are stealing the identity of a family to make a profit.”
In particular, the family has taken issue with paparazzi capturing pictures showing the actors in costumes and makeup. According to Digital Spy, Patrizia said her grandfather, Aldo Gucci, who is being played by Al Pacino in the film, “was a very handsome man.”
“This photo shows him as fat, short, with sideburns, really ugly. Shameful, because he doesn’t resemble him at all,” she added.
Jared Leto’s transformation into Paolo Gucci had also caused quite a stir. The A-list actor looked unrecognizable in the photos, wearing a drab brown suit and spotting a bald haircut. As for this portrayal, Patrizia said it was “horrible, horrible… I still feel offended.”
House of Gucci is slated to be released in the US on November 24, although with the family’s outspoken criticisms, it seems this partnership could be on the rocks. As per The Associated Press, Patrizia said the family will decide if to take further action after seeing the film. Keep your eyes peeled.
