Adidas’ Recycling Bins Exchange Your Used Plastic Bottles For New Stan Smiths

Adidas has teamed up with creative agency Mojo Supermarket for a clever campaign that allows you to purchase a pair of Stan Smiths using plastic bottles.
The duo have launched a one-of-a-kind recycling vending machine that accepts old plastic bottles as payment and, in turn, offers you discounts for the new sustainable Stan Smiths that are partially made out of recycled bottles.
The campaign aims to encourage the public to recycle and save the world from wasteful human products. This move could also make consumers think twice about whether they should toss away that empty water bottle.
How it works is simple. First, you insert an empty plastic bottle into the machine. The equipment will then confirm if the bottle is recyclable before offering a voucher, which you can then take to your local Adidas store checkout as payment.
The new campaign reflects Adidas’ commitment to making eco-friendly shoes, which is reflected in its sustainable Stan Smiths. The sustainable kicks are made with P-coated recycled polyester, which gives off the same look and vibe as the usual leather uppers.
Adidas stated that it will be using the aforementioned material in future Stan Smiths, in hopes that its greener shoes will help to save the world the same way as recycling plastic does.
“We love working with our friends at Adidas because they try to use their influence to solve cultural problems, not just business ones,” director of Art & Design Camilo Galofre explained.
The first Stan Smith vending machines are located at the Adidas Flagship New York store and Adidas Flagship Paris store. More vending machines will be rolled out globally later this year.
