OPPO’s new headquarters is set to adorn the Hangzhou skyline with a massive O shape. This incredible project was designed by the architectural firm Bjarke Ingels Group, which describes the skyscraper as an “infinity loop” that “connects ground to sky in a continuous loop of collaboration.”
The new headquarters will undoubtedly cement OPPO’s status as China’s largest smartphone manufacturer. Located in Hangzhou’s Future Sci-Tech City, within the Zhejiang province of China, it will serve as a research and design building, while acting as an “iconic landmark and gateway” to the city’s business district.
Even more impressive is the building at dusk, which will light up to create the letter O in Hangzhou’s skyline. According to
Yanko Design, the skyscraper will also be built alongside a natural lake and 10,000 square-meter (2.5-acre) park, combining sci-fi design with nature.
“The central oasis and the surrounding wetland park expands the public realm into the heart of the complex,” said Bjarke Ingels, founder of the Copenhagen-based architecture studio behind the design.
The tower is slated to also contain exhibition spaces, conference areas, and a canteen. On its façade, the building will be wrapped in slanted slats, giving off the impression that the structure has “fingerprints.” The exterior will help play an important role in minimizing solar glare.
This feat sees architecture come together with typography to create something never seen before. Not only will it serve as a landmark in Hangzhou, it’ll help solidify OPPO’s brand, through, well, the huge O.
