Procreate Takes iPad Editing To Next Dimension By Letting You Draw On 3D Objects

If you’re an artist or designer who feels especially inspired working on the go, Procreate’s latest feature will have you all hyped up about creating on your iPad. In its upcoming update, the advanced painting app for mobile devices will bring a 3D Paint tool that’ll make working with mockups much less of a pain.
When Procreate 5.2 becomes available soon, users will be able to trade their usual plain canvases for 3D objects and surfaces, and then paint on them from any angle.
On top of that, they’ll be able to preview the painted 3D objects in the real world through AR, complete with “realistic lighting and shadow effects [to] help you visualize and capture the possibilities.”
The feature will come hand in hand with massive performance improvements helped by iPad Pro’s new M1 chip, which will allow the app to run four times faster even with high-resolution, multi-layered artworks. The update will additionally comprise a “more inclusive” and customizable interface, as well as audio feedback for users who require it.
Users first got a sneak peek of the 3D Paint feature during Apple’s unveiling of the 2021 iPad Pro:
Even though the update was teased alongside the new iPad model and M1 chip, the app has reassured users that 3D Paint will not be exclusive to M1-powered iPads. What those on newer iPads stand to gain is a faster app; 3D painting, however, will not be restricted to “any particular model of the iPad.”
