Picasso Masterpiece Gets Full-Scale Chocolate Recreation By Spanish Chocolatiers

In 1937, Pablo Picasso created his 11.5- by 25.5-foot masterpiece Guernica, which depicted the horrors of war and violence that the world-renowned painter was strongly against.
To commemorate the 85th anniversary of the April 1937 bombing which inspired Guernica, confectioners in Spain’s Basque Country have recreated an all-chocolate version of the mural.
As per the Smithsonian Magazine, an estimated 40 artisan chocolatiers from the local association, Euskal Gozogileak (Basque Chocolatiers), worked together to construct the life-size replica.
Picasso’s figures and brushstrokes were recreated with different types of chocolates, with the confectioners following the original composition as closely as possible.
As reported by TeleMadrid, the chocolatiers used more than 1,000 pounds of cocoa to make the chocolate from scratch. They then “drew” the mural using pipettes and airbrushes, to achieve the shading and shapes as seen in the original.
