KFC App Glitch Not Only Gave Out $30K Worth Of Free Food, But Also Jail

Five students in China uncovered a loophole in the KFC app that could score them free food—and instead of chickening out, they went through with the exploitation, got over US$30,000 in sustenance… and some jail time.
According to Thepaper.cn, via VICE, it all started when one of the students, identified only as Xu, discovered that by jumping over from the KFC app to the fried chicken chain’s store on instant messaging tool WeChat, he could create free food vouchers in any amount.
For the next six months, Xu continued to game the system, and even brought friends. Xu managed to gain access to about US$9,000 worth of free food during this time, while his four friends scored about US$22,000 of food between them.
Committing gluttony wasn’t enough, however. Xu began selling the free food to others at low rates. KFC found out, had some bones to pick, and took the students to court.
The five were found guilty of fraud and are being put behind bars for 15 to 30 months, in addition to having to pay fines. Don’t mess with the Colonel.
