NSFW: Pornhub Remasters Century-Old Erotic Videos In 4K With AI’s Help NSFW

Pornhub wiped out all unverified videos, accounting for the majority of its content, from its platform back in December. To build its collection back up, the adult entertainment platform is diving into an unexpected source of inspiration: history.
Pornhub’s latest genre blends past, present, and future into one happy tryst. Artificial intelligence gave the website a hand in colorizing 20 erotic films from the 1890s to 1940s for a new project called Remastured, produced alongside advertising agency Officer&Gentleman and creative studio Espadaysantacruz Studio.
So, what did choreographed sex look like in the past? It turns out that earlier clips were innocuous to the point that they could even pass ratings for general audiences today; think stripteases that only exposed the ankle. The selection also includes the first-ever kiss on film (how sacrilegious!), directed by—get this—inventor Thomas Edison.
As people became a little more open-minded through the years, the scope for eroticism broadened. There were sensual massages, threesomes, strap-ons, spankings, and so on.
To remaster vintage films, Pornhub trained the algorithm with black and white images, and then fed it their colorized counterparts so it could recognize where each color would go. The videos were also sharpened to 4K resolution and enhanced to 60 frames per second with “limited human intervention.”
Apart from expanding its collection of videos, the AI gave Pornhub a happy ending it wasn’t expecting. “It learned a naughty new trick,” Pornhub revealed in a press release. “How to detect subtle shades of penises, nipples, and turn-of-the-century bush.”
