NASA Releases Immersive, 360-Degree Video Of Mars, And It’s A Beauty

For almost two minutes, you can take a quick respite to the Red Planet, believed to be humankind’s next home.
NASA has just shared a fascinating video that lets you peer around the surface of Mars in 360 degrees. The panorama was captured at the Van Zyl Overlook via Percy’s Mastcam-Z instrument between April 15 and 26, and is made up of 992 images stitched together—totaling 2.4 billion pixels.
Adding to the experience are the audio recordings of Martian sounds, with rover noises being edited out. For now, this is your closest bet at visiting the Red Planet, but you probably wouldn’t be too mad at it.
To explore the Van Zyl Overlook, drag around this video and pinch to zoom in or out. It is best experienced with headphones on, and you could even use a VR headset, if you have one, to almost simulate a walk on Mars.
