Nintendo Reveals OLED Switch For Visuals With Intense Blacks, High Contrast

After the first model was released over four years ago and took the world by storm, a brand new Nintendo Switch with an improved screen and speakers is coming October 8.
At first glance, its most noticeable new feature is the striking, clean white exterior of the console, joining the iconic red-and-blue and sleek dark gray in the Switch’s color family.
But that’s not all: the internal storage capacity has also doubled from the regular Switch, going from 32GB to 64GB. And, the innovative handheld-tabletop-television design is further enhanced with a wider and more stable kickstand to support tabletop mode. For online gaming, there is now the option to use the new built-in Ethernet port for seamless and stable connection.
However, the main feature to look out for is the incorporation of a seven-inch OLED screen, a notable upgrade from the Switch’s 6.2-inch LCD screen and the Switch Lite’s 5.5 inches.
OLED screens are designed to control individual pixels, deepening black tones and heightening contrast. This results in stunning, more vibrant colors than standard LCD screens. These screens reduce power consumption, too.
This announcement comes after vast speculations and rumors about an upgraded ‘Switch Pro’, with many users stating they would like to see 4K support and a newer, more powerful processor in an upgraded version of the console. In fact, there has been so much conversation around it that it almost seems real, despite Nintendo never having made any remark on this mythical console before.
Interestingly, the new OLED Switch doesn’t seem to have any notable performance upgrades. Hope is still aflame for the Switch Pro to make an appearance, perhaps with the power upgrade that many users remain vying for.
