Whataburger Opens Museum Of Art With Charming Tribute Paintings On Display

Texas fast-food chain Whataburger has set up a virtual museum of art to honor its diehard fanbase. The featured artworks are all created by artists paying homage to the state’s iconic restaurants.
The Whataburger Museum of Art (WMOA) lives on Instagram, and features artists from across the country who had previously tagged the company in their own posts. Pieces range from depictions of its food, branding, and restaurants, to paintings created directly on the packaging itself.
Each artwork is cropped and placed on a white background with the artist name, title, and details tucked neatly in the corner. It’s almost reminiscent of viewing a Van Gogh in a traditional brick-and-mortar gallery.
It’s not just the love of burgers that motivates this collective of artists to create their featured pieces. Featured artist Kristin Moore explains that the recognizable branding—the orange ‘W’ and matching stripes—“inspired this sense of Americana, and this sense of being a Texan.”
“I started to see the Whataburger sign as this iconic image in my brain when I’d drive home to Texas,” she says. “I was like, ‘Oh yes! I’m almost home.’”
The fast-food company describes this initiative as “a collection of artwork by the fans and for the fans.”
The museum is still accepting submissions, encouraging creatives to tag the @WMOA account in their posts.
