Highly celebrated British fashion designer Phoebe Philo made her impact as Creative Director first at Chloé (2001–2006), then at Céline (2008–2017). Her departure from Céline also marked the start of her three-year hiatus, much to the dismay of many within the fashion industry and onlookers and fans on the outside.
Philo has her legacy rooted in not just revitalizing the then-dormant Chloé and Céline brands, but also her success as a female creative director for a luxury fashion house–a role often dominated by men. Flipping the concept of the male gaze on its head, she championed the female gaze instead, alongside many iconic looks of a generation: the babydoll-dress-wooden-clog trend during her time at Chloé; or, spearheading the movement of luxury Birkenstocks when she was active at Céline.
But, in an exclusive report made to
With French luxury group LVMH having taken only a minority stake in the new brand, the label is said to be “rooted in exceptional quality and design,” offering clothing and accessories. The company was incorporated on July 9, naming Philo and her husband Max Wigram as the directors.
“Being in my studio and making once again has been both exciting and incredibly fulfilling,” Philo told The Business of Fashion. “I am very much looking forward to being back in touch with my audience and people everywhere. To be independent, to govern and experiment on my own terms is hugely significant to me.”
More details will be available come January 2022.
