Seiko Celebrates 20 Years Of ‘Spirited Away’ With Magical Timepieces

Watchmaker Seiko isn’t dialing back on its tributes to Japanese animation classics, and with 2021 marking the 20th anniversary of Spirited Away, there was no way it would pass up the chance to celebrate the beloved film.

Teaming up with Studio Ghibli and recreation goods Benelic, Seiko has designed four timepieces faithful to the Spirited Away story. All models are encased in a dreamy “window” straight out of the traditional bathhouse.

In spite of his name, No-Face features in two of the watch faces. There’s a colorful day mode-esque variation where the character peers out of the window, surrounded by flowers and accompanied by a rogue soot sprite. A black, white and red version sports the same artwork, but in night mode-style.

The other two designs are embodied by Haku, whose human personification contemplates among flowers in one version, while his river spirit form gracefully glides along the circumference of the watch.

The captivating timepieces will be made available from July 22 via Studio Ghibli’s official store Donguri Sora at ¥15,400 (US$140) per watch.
