Apple Warns Against Using Strong Cleaning Products To Disinfect Devices

With a health crisis still in the midst, you might be especially aware of your phone being touched. And while it’s recommended you clean your devices regularly, Apple advises not to go overboard with it.
In a newly updated support document spotted by MacRumors, the Cupertino tech giant is urging users not to clean Apple products—including iPhones, Macs, iPads, Apple Watches, AirPods, and HomePods—with disinfectants containing bleach or hydrogen peroxide, which is often used as a bleaching agent.
In addition, customers should ensure that moisture doesn’t get in any openings, and that Apple items aren’t submerged in cleaning products.
In place of these, Apple says to “gently wipe the hard, nonporous surfaces of your Apple product” with a 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe, a 75% ethyl alcohol wipe, or a Clorox disinfecting wipe. Sanitizing your screen, keyboard, or other exterior surfaces with them is A-okay.
Apple’s standard warranty doesn’t cover liquid damage—so keep your iPhone dry and check the bottle for any mention of bleach or hydrogen peroxide.
