Polish influencer Marta Rentel, who also goes by username Marti Renti, has sold her “love” as an non-fungible token (NFT) to an unknown buyer for a staggering US$250,000. Not only does the buyer get to keep this peculiar digital asset, but they will also be able to go on a date with her in the real world.

Rentel, who has amassed over 2.4 million followers on TikTok, said via an Instagram post, “Yesterday I sold my first NFT for an incredible amount – I won’t tell you how much, because I don’t believe it myself. I don’t know who bought them yet. Brent, if it’s you, thank you.”

According to UNILAD, the 21-year-old had partnered with subscription-based platform Fanadise, which allows influencers such as Rentel to sell exclusive content to their fans.

The description on Rentel’s NFT explained: “This is the first ever Love NFT based on digital DNA of Marti Renti. Symbol and the beginning of the new digital era. The holder of the only one of Marti Renti’s Love NFT will have full rights to her digital love. Moreover he will be invited to a one-on-one dinner with Marta Rentel in the physical world.”

While it still isn’t too clear what exactly this buyer will receive in terms of “digital love,” Rentel said that she had wanted to be the first in the world to tokenize emotions.

“Physical love, platonic love, and digital love may be different, but each is real in the same way as all our thoughts and feelings. And digital means eternal,” she said.

“I always wanted Polish women to go down in history. I can already imagine what picture of me might appear in history books. It’s possible, isn’t it?”

Is this the moment where we say digital assets and NFTs have gone too far? Or will more celebrities and influencers digitize their affection and emotions to sell to fans? We’ll find out soon enough.
