YouTube Is Rolling Out A ‘Super Thanks’ Feature For Viewers To Tip Creators

Until now, content creators on YouTube have turned to third-party plugins or websites such as Ko-fi to allow fans to thank them for their work through donations. Starting this week, viewers will be able to tip their favorite creators directly from YouTube through the site’s all-new ‘Super Thanks’ feature.
Although the new feature is still in beta testing, it will be rolled out to thousands of creators across 68 countries, and by the end of the year, YouTube plans to make it available to all creators in the YouTube Partner Program.
According to Engadget, in the US, viewers will have the option of tipping creators US$2, US$5, US$10, or US$50 at a time. Once payment is completed, an animated GIF of balloons will float across the viewer’s screen, with YouTube highlighting their comment and amount donated.
As with other tools on the site such as Super Chat and Super Stickers, YouTube will take a 30% cut of all donations.
With YouTube facing serious competition from short-video platforms such as TikTok, or streaming sites such as Twitch, it’s no wonder it has stepped up to make it easier for content creators to earn directly on the site.
Now, creators won’t have to rely on third-party sites to fund their productions, with fans being able to contribute directly while watching the videos. For more information, head here.
