Sony’s PS5 Design Refresh Spotted In Manuals, To Be Lighter & More User-Friendly

Updates to Sony’s PlayStation 5 in the new Digital Edition may result in a lighter console with a reworking that is happening as we speak.
Just spotted by Twitter user Renka_schedule, recent tweaks to the manuals suggest that the new model, listed as CFI-1100B, is already 300g (10.6oz) lighter than the current one. The console will weigh around 3.6kg (7.9lbs) rather than the previous 3.9kg (8.6lbs). That’s a pretty significant difference.
However, that begs the question: where did that weight go? No details have been specified yet. But apart from the Digital Edition not having a disc slot like its predecessor does, it’s most likely due to updates to the power supply, which is the heaviest part of most consoles. The dimensions remain the same, though, at 15.4 x 10.2 x 4.09-inches.
Diagrams show that there’s another update; the Digital Edition no longer requires users to have a screwdriver on hand when attaching the PS5’s stand. Instead, a thumb screw replaces the standard one, meaning that that positioning the console vertically will be much less hassle.
Nothing has been fully confirmed by Sony yet, and what fans know is just gleaned from the old and new PS5 manuals. The Digital Edition is set to be launched in Japan soon, with other regions to follow. However, given the how elusive the PS5 was at release, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if the Digital Edition followed in similar footsteps.
