Apple AirTag Gets Sent To Tim Cook By YouTuber, Company Actually Responds

Introduced earlier this year, Apple’s new AirTag trackers are deemed a “supereasy way to keep track of your stuff.” Their purpose is to make sure that finding your keys under a sofa cushion when you’re already running late, or the bag you left on the train at 11pm, isn’t the headache that it’s known to be. However, people have already begun to find more creative ways to use it other than its intended purpose.
Tracking isn’t just for everyday things; be honest, how many times have we ordered something online then immediately went to the ‘track package’ button? In YouTuber MegaLag’s video, he is shown sending parcels containing AirTags from Frankfurt, Germany to Elon Musk, North Korea, and Apple’s Tim Cook himself. He traced the parcels’ progress using the Find My app, locating them in DHL facilities and airports while in transit.
The AirTag sent to Musk arrived at SpaceX and remained for two and a half weeks before its last hurrah was detected at a recycling center in Castaic, California. Perhaps to no one’s shock, the one sent to North Korea never reached; however, it was shipped to South Korea instead. Sadly, since the Find My feature is not available there due to South Korean regulations, it disappeared off the radar and we might never know what happened to it.
But the one that was sent to Tim Cook yielded the most interesting result; it arrived safely at Apple Park and lived there for six weeks, almost like an educational cultural exchange trip. It was then sent back to Germany, and opening the package revealed a letter alongside it, signed by Michael, one of Tim Cook’s assistants.
“We’re delighted to hear about creative uses for AirTags and how they can improve our customers’ lives,” the letter writes. “As you can imagine, Mr Cook receives hundreds of letters each month from customers like yourself. Unfortunately, he is unable to respond to every request. But we hope you continue to enjoy your AirTag as it returns from its unique journey across the world!”
It leaves room to wonder how many AirTags the assistant has since received after the publication of the video, which, at the time of writing, has over a million views. MegaLab’s documentation of this journey is split into two.
