When SpaceX’s Inspiration4 mission launches this fall, Netflix is not only getting a slice of the action; it’s delivering it to us Earth-dwellers, too.
“We’re all going to space,” the streaming company
declares.
Countdown: Inspiration4 Mission To Space is planned to be a five-part documentary series leading up to the launch and following the mission. It’s also going to be a first for Netflix: this will be a pioneer effort in covering an event in “near real-time.”
The mission will see an all-civilian four-person crew led by Jared Isaacman, CEO and founder of Shift4 Payments, who is also piloting the privately charted flight. The other crew members are geoscientist Sian Proctor, US Airforce veteran Christopher Sembroski, and doctor’s assistant/childhood cancer survivor Hayley Arceneaux.
Their plans are to launch into space and orbit for three days, all to raise awareness and approximately US$200 million in funds for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Countdown: Inspiration4 Mission To Space’s first two parts are premiering on September 6. Two more episodes will come on September 13, reports
Recode, if everything goes to plan. Inspiration4’s launch, scheduled for September 15, will be filmed as it happens, then featured in the grand finale of the five-part series.
