Controversial Citizen App Debuts Paid Monthly Service For ‘On-Demand’ Protection

The Citizen app, which previously faced criticism for causing issues and paying New Yorkers to livestream crime scenes, has now launched a new paid subscription service. This new feature will give subscribers access to remote safety experts around the clock.
As reported by HYPEBEAST, the new program, reportedly named the ‘Citizen Project’, has been described by the company as an “on-demand, personalized, mobile protection subscription.” The agents are said to be able to virtually analyze a dangerous situation, and can even monitor a user’s location if necessary.
If the agents assess the situation to be potentially dangerous, the app will send emergency responders to the user’s location, notify their loved ones, and even provide navigation towards a safe place if there’s a chance of escape. Users will also be able to enable the Protect Mode’s A-powered live monitoring, which can be used whenever they feel unsafe, such as walking through a dark alley.
Citizen has trialed the program earlier this year with about 100,000 beta users. Paid subscribers will be able to use the ‘Get Agent’ button, which will connect them to a remote Project Agent via video, audio, or just text, according to Tech Times.
This new feature is available on iOS for US$19.99 per month, with the Android version expected to launch soon. For more information, head Citizen.
