While a man was renovating his aunt’s home after a flood in the city of Hagen, Germany, he came across a startling discovery: a hidden trove of World War II Nazi artifacts.

Upon removing a piece of plasterboard, Sebastian Yurtseven came across a newspaper dated 1945, along with several objects from the Nazi era.

The hidden cache revealed gas masks, a revolver, a brass knuckle duster, NSDAP party eagles, and hundreds of letters and documents from the National Socialist People’s Welfare (NSV), a social welfare organization established during the Third Reich.

According to HeritageDaily, the likely theory is that upon the arrival of the Allied forces in Germany, Nazi party members tried to hide any documents that could give them away and lead to their arrest. This discovery, described as a “time capsule from the Nazi era,” will provide valuable insight into the inner workings of the NSV.

“It is an incredibly important find. It throws a spotlight on the actions and activities of Nazi agencies at the local level,” said Dr Ralf Blank from the Museum and Archives of the City of Hagen.
