Ethereum-based NFT game Axie Infinity has hit US$1 billion in sales, according to data from CryptoSlam, an NFT data aggregator.
As of today, US$1,073,622,559 worth of tokens have been traded within the Pokémon-inspired game. This milestone makes it the first-ever NFT game to reach US$1 billion in sales.
According toDecrypt, the game currently boasts over 2.4 million transactions, over 320,000 buyers, 930,000 owners, and more than a million daily active users.
In Axie Infinity, users can earn tokens through gameplay and contributions to its ecosystem. Players can battle, raise, and build a land-based kingdom for their pets. However, Axie Infinity monsters don’t come cheap.
A single monster can cost several hundred dollars in cryptocurrency, with even a shrub costing US$60. The cheapest monster currently available on the marketplace is worth US$295, Decrypt notes.
The blockchain game, which was first launched back in 2018, has picked up steam over the summer. Almost a fifth of the game’s sales took place in the past week, with over three quarters in just the past month.
