Canon Launches Mini-Site That Teaches, Quizzes Your Ability To Spot Fakes

Is your “Canon” camera not producing the shots it was advertised to achieve? Then it’s probably counterfeit.
No thanks to the growing prominence of online shopping, the market for fake goods is getting saturated. So to fight counterfeits, Canon USA has opened a microsite dedicated to helping you identify authentic products and illegal copycats. Apart from resources, there’s also a quiz to test how adept you may be at spotting fakes.
The first way to weed out bogus products, Canon says, is to order products from its official store or from authorized distributors. Also, if a price you see online is too good to be true, there’s reason for suspicion.
Visually, customers are advised to look out for a genuine Canon hologram, which should change appearance when tilted back and forth.

The logo embossed on products should also be aligned, as “manufacturers apply their logos with great care.” If the branding comes across as “sloppy, blurry or misplaced,” there’s a high chance the gadget or accessory is an imitation good.

Batteries should also fit easily into cameras, and devices shouldn’t be prone to overheating.
