Taco Bell Unveils Plans For First-Ever Futuristic, High-Tech Restaurant

One of the nation’s most beloved fast food chains is moving towards the future with its new dining experience, Taco Bell Defy. The new restaurant is set to be built in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and will be a 3,000-square-foot, two-story building.
Those who turn to drive-thrus at a pinch will be delighted to know that in an effort to improve customers’ experience, the company will add four drive-thru lanes at the restaurant, so you won’t have to spend an hour in the queue. According to Thrillist, three of the four lanes will serve only pickup and smartphone orders, and will be equipped with screens that will allow customers to interact with restaurant employees via audio and video.
Using a QR code, a customer will be able to scan their orders, before picking them up from a “bell-evator.” This special lift will operate between the ground level and second-story kitchen, and will “deliver” food to customers without needing face-to-face interaction with a server.
Taco Bell Defy is slated to break ground this month and open its high-tech doors in summer 2022. “This new, innovative concept breaking ground in Brookly Park, Minnesota, will improve a major aspect of the consumer experience: drive-thru speed,” said Aaron Engler, President of Border Foods, in a press release.
“We’re partnering with Taco Bell and the best and brightest in technology and design to create what will very likely be the future of quick service restaurants.”
