Lamborghini Brings Back The Famed Countach Sports Car As A Hybrid After 50 Years

Back in the 80s, the Lamborghini Countach was the sports car of everyone’s dreams. And now, after 50 years, it’s back—as a hybrid. The automaker is reviving one of its most famous models on its 50th anniversary, befitting of the legendary car.

The car’s silhouette remains similar to that of its past, but is modernized for 2021 drivers. Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini, said the new iteration “imagines how the iconic Countach of the 70s and 80s might have evolved into an elite super sports model of this decade.”

The highly-coveted vehicle retains details from how it looked 50 years ago: there’s still no fixed rear wing, it comes with signature air-scoops, and its distinctive “gills” are visible. The differences lie in the car’s engine.

According to Yahoo, it packs the brand’s famed V-12 engine, but also comes with a 48 volt e-motor, making the vehicle an electric hybrid. This is the same setup used in the Lamborghini Sián, which makes use of a super capacitor to store and expend energy.

If you’re drooling at the thought of a Countach, you may have to fight for it. Lamborghini said it will only be making 112 units of the model, with no price released just yet. With its Sián counterpart starting from US$2.6 million, the new Countach could cost more than that.
