Watch Boston Dynamics’ Atlas Robots Perform Parkour Better Than Most People

Boston Dynamics’ Atlas robots look as though they’re gearing up to be in the next Mission Impossible film. The Hyundai-owned company recently released a new video of the humanlike robots completing a parkour routine through an obstacle course.
In the video, the two Atlas robots managed to leap past gaps, vaulted beams, and even performed backflips without falling down once. Could they be even better than Olympic hopefuls?
According to the firm, the routine took months to implement, and was used as a test of the robots’ agility and balance as they switched from one action to another. Boston Dynamics is also training the bots to use visual sensors to adapt their movements around the course.
It may still be some time before they feature alongside Tom Cruise on screen, as the robots still face a 50% failure rate when it comes to the vault, as per Engadget.
Upon completing the obstacles, one of the robots was supposed to pump an arm, which the team calls the “Cha-Ching.” However, it stumbled a bit, which was hardly noticeable in the video, but duly noted by the team, who pick on every minute detail.
Boston Dynamics says it still has to work on refining the robots’ movements, which are often limited by how they’re structured. Without a spine, and with weak arm joints, there are certain actions the robots can’t perform just yet.
