Tony Hawk Gave Up Some Of His Blood To Produce Outrageous New Skateboards

Tony Hawk has given up much of his life for skateboarding, and you could say it runs through his veins.

Spinning that into a literal sense, the skateboarding champ has partnered up with water brand Liquid Death to debut special-edition skateboards using a component that’s all-natural but isn’t at all plant-based: a blood sacrifice; his own blood, that is.

To produce the Hawk Blood Deck, the company obtained a vial of his blood to help color the product, manufactured by Prime Skateboards.

As it’s “infused with 100% real Tony Hawk,” with pigment “harvested straight from the source,” the skateboard is extremely limited to a count of 100 units, since the star would require the rest of his blood.

The skateboard’s heavy metal-esque artwork was created by artist Will Carsola, depicting a ripped, shirtless figure with a Liquid Death metal (get it?) can head standing on a pool of blood.

Andy Pearson, Liquid Death’s vice president of creative, told Fast Company that Hawk was instantly taken to the idea when approached for the collaboration. “He laughed and said he loved it,” said Pearson. “He’s bled enough on a skate ramp before, so it wasn’t a big deal for him at all.”

Liquid Death is Hawking the skateboards for US$500 a pop, with 10% of proceeds dedicated to anti-plastic pollution nonprofit 5 Gyres and Hawk’s Skatepark initiative.
