Apple’s Upcoming Watch 7 Could Face Delays Due To Its Complex Design

Earlier this week, Bloomberg tech insider Mark Gurman revealed new details coming to the Apple Watch 7 lineup in his newsletter. Among standout features to expect are larger case sizes, with Apple adding more watch faces to match them.
Instead of the current 40mm and 44mm sizes, Series 7 will potentially offer 41mm and 45mm cases instead. It’s a significant update, considering that it’s only the second time the company has increased the size of its watch displays.
However, if you’ve been planning to get your hands on the brand-new Apple Watch 7, there may be a longer wait than expected. According to Nikkei Asia, Apple has delayed the production of its new watch models due to manufacturing challenges.
It was reported that after a small scale test run, the company found the quality of the finished watches to be sub-standard. Insiders told Nikkei the new, more complex design—including new blood-pressure sensors and water-resistance features—could be to blame.
Although it’s widely expected that Apple will introduce the Watch 7 at its launch event this month, customers may not get their hands on the wearable so soon after.
Last year, Apple faced production issues with the iPhone 12 lineup, causing two models to be released in October and the other two in November. In 2017, the iPhone X had also been in short supply following its release, due to production issues with the then-new Face ID feature, as per CNBC.
While the company has yet to comment on these rumors, it wouldn’t be the first tech company to face major production problems this year, considering that Sony had to change the design of its PlayStation 5 to keep up with demand.
