Polaroid Packs Myriad Editing Strengths Into Its ‘Most Creative’ Camera Yet

Everyone loves that old-timey charm, but it’s not always enough to make them give up modern-day conveniences and possibilities. This is clear in Instagram photos and photo editing apps that use “film” filters to emulate classic instant pictures.
The all-new Now+ camera by Polaroid, with an updated Bluetooth-enabled app, scratches the itch to draw from technologies past and present. Billed as Polaroid’s “most creative camera yet,” it’s got the look and feel of a Polaroid instant camera, plus modern in-camera and in-app enhancement features to add a touch of surrealism to physical photos.

As described by Mashable, the Now+ borrows the autofocus capabilities of its predecessor, the Now camera, along with the extensive creative control that the OneStep+ camera receives from the accompanying Polaroid app. New to the Polaroid portfolio, though, are Now+’s aperture priority and tripod mode settings, along with the ability to simulate long exposure and depth of field through the app.

“We designed the Now+ to help people take their creativity further," explains Ignacio Germade, Polaroid’s Chief Design Officer, in a news release. “The Polaroid app is redesigned from the ground up, including new modes and a streamlined interface.”
On top of these, the Now+ allows users to create custom modes in manual mode, giving them the option of jumping to their go-to settings at the push of a button. There’s also the freedom to experiment with light painting, double exposure, portrait mode, and self-timer mode within the app like the OneStep+ camera.

The Now+, available in classic colorways of Black, White, and Blue Gray, gets an additional tripod mount at its base.

Photo manipulation is also possible externally, thanks to the five physical, interchangeable filters—starburst, red vignette, and blue, orange, and yellow filters—that can be attached to the lens to change a shot’s tint or contrast.

Sold exclusively on Polaroid.com, the Now+ camera is priced at US$149 with the accompanying filter kit. The paired mobile app can be installed for free on Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store.
