Viral Video Of Tortoises Running Gets Debunked As CGI

If someone had plans to make a live-action film version of The Tortoise and the Hare, this species would be up and running (sorry) as possible actors to cast.
For now, though, producers would have to stick with VFX, which is exactly what these tortoises are.
A video depicting a group of the usually slow reptiles running around in circles, like puppies, has caught the attention of internet users and spooked some.

The clip wasn’t sped up, and neither are these tortoises real. It’s an animation created by Vernon James Manlapaz, who built a massive online following producing lifelike “magical videos” of giant creatures or objects in the real world.
Fact-checking site Snopes also points out that the world’s fastest tortoise, recognized by the Guinness World Records, is Bertie, who sprinted at a speed of 0.92 feet per second. That’s fast for his kind, but it’s not nearly as fast as the ones in the CGI video.
Apparently, this isn’t the first time Manlapaz’s short videos have tricked viewers after his work was shared without attribution. Social media users were also bamboozled by convincing footage portraying a family of giraffes frolicking in a park.
Other artworks of Manlapaz’s are steeped deeper in fantasy, like dancing penguin buskers and oversized butterflies overlooking a sea.
Manlapaz finds fulfillment in drawing out people’s childlike wonder, even for just 10 seconds of their life, he told Colossal.
