Houseparty App Bids Goodbye Because No One Needs Pandemic-Era Games Anymore

Epic Games, which bought Houseparty in 2019, has announced that the gaming app will be shutting down in October.
The app first rose to prominence during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when everyone stuck in their homes were desperately finding ways to connect with family and friends.
As the world opens up and we’re getting to interact face-to-face again, perhaps there’s no longer a need for Houseparty and its party games. It’ll be pulled entirely from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, as per Mashable.
However, Houseparty could make a comeback some time in the future. In a statement by Epic Games, the company said “the team behind Houseparty is working on creating new ways to have meaningful and authentic social interactions at metaverse scale.”
What does that entail exactly? No one’s quite sure. But with words like “metaverse” thrown into the mix, it wouldn’t be surprising if it rebrands as an NFT game later on.
“We hope that the memories you’ve made will last a lifetime,” the statement added.
Thanks, Houseparty, for bringing some reprieve during one of the worst years in recent memory.
