Apple iPad Mini Owners Face ‘Jelly Scrolling’ Gaffe, Store Units Fall Prey Too

One of the highlights of Apple’s California Streaming fall event was the unveiling of the latest iPad Mini.

The tablet underwent a huge upgrade, with a new design, built-in Touch ID, and note-taking support for Apple Pencil.

However, some customers who’ve managed to get their hands on the highly sought-after device have been left baffled by its screen.

Users have been experiencing what they call “jelly scrolling,” which occurs when one side of the iPad’s display refreshes more slowly than the other, causing a “wobbling” effect in the middle of the screen as the user is scrolling down a page.

One user told 9to5Mac that upon heading back to the Apple Store to replace their “broken” device, they found that all the display units of the iPad Mini had the same problem. Though it was noted that the differences in refresh rates are less noticeable when the tablet’s in landscape mode.

According to Engadget, Apple has yet to respond to the complaints, and as of now, it’s unclear if it’s a software or hardware issue. While the iPads are still functioning normally, it’s unlikely customers would be too happy to encounter such a visible flaw after shelling out at least US$499 for the brand-new device.

Hopefully, it’s a small software hiccup that an update can solve. If it’s a more serious matter, though, it’s unclear how Apple will go about fixing all the units it has already sold.
