Ford Visualizes Dream Flying Electric Concept Car Designed By 500 Kids

When the switch—or at least, some part of it—to electric vehicles (EVs) comes inevitably within this century, kids will grow up to learn to drive an EV and never step their foot on a pedal of a gas or diesel car.
That’s quite a thought.
So if the future generation is the one to be using these cars 24/7, 365, it’s only right to let them get to choose how they’re designed, Ford believes. Hence the aptly-named design that sprouted of its latest survey: the ‘Future Generation Concept’.
The company surveyed a group of 500 schoolchildren, aged between 8 to 9 years old, in the UK to find out what their dream features for their dream car would be. This age group is predicted to begin to learn driving after 2030, which is the year the UK will move towards a majority of EVs on the road.
Findings from the enthusiastic focus group were compiled into the Go Electric: Future Generation Report, aimed to be an educational campaign around the electrification of vehicles.
Then, Ford’s Senior Exterior Designer, Nedzad Mujcinovic, brought the kids’ vision to life in the ‘Future Generation’ car.
The report indicated that around 79% of the kids can’t wait to learn to drive when their time comes, and 49% of them want their first car to be electric. This is a large step from the 17% who said they’d still prefer a conventional car.
For these future drivers, the most important features the car must have—apart from being electric—are comfy seats, a good sound system, self-driving, and other eco-friendly implementations.
Finally, and perhaps the most importantly, it must do without wheels. Because, of course, the car has to be able to fly. That’s a pretty solid set of priorities.

Apart from designing the car, the kids were asked who they thought were the top environmentalists who were setting the best example for a greener future.
The top five were David Attenborough (46%), Greta Thunberg (35%), and Prince Charles (28%), with Swampy and Caroline Lucas following closely behind.
Besides being a fascinating look into what the potential car of the future may look like, the survey on the group of children “highlighted their desire to protect the environment as the motivation for embracing electric driving, with 78% agreeing that we have to try our hardest to look after the planet, by being as green as possible,” writes Ford.
