Apple Adds 3D Features To Maps, Revitalizing Landmarks To Realistic Effect

In addition to the other incredible features that come with iOS 15, including one that lets you create burner emails, Apple’s new system is also introducing 3D cities in its Maps app.

According to Mashable, New York City, London, Los Angeles, and San Francisco now have landmarks show up in 3D. Locations such as the Dodger Stadium, London Eye, and Royal Albert Hall pop out with detailed renderings that look just like the real thing.

Even better? These special places will glow on Maps once the sun has set in real life. For example, you’ll be able to see the Statue of Liberty fully lit in the app when it’s nighttime.
Alongside the monuments, the rest of the city also comes alive with life-like details, even with “regular” places such as office buildings.

While there are currently only four cities with the 3D effect, Apple is slated to expand the beautiful experience to Washington, DC, Philadelphia, and San Diego later this year. Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver will be added in 2022.
If you’re more of a big-picture person, the app has also added an interactive 3D globe that allows you to explore Earth.
With the different contours of mountains and valleys, as well as details of forests and oceans, it’ll allow you to go anywhere you want.
