Marvel Reveals Its First MCU Big-Screen Gay Couple In Latest ‘Eternals’ Trailer

Avengers fans were feeling shortchanged when they were promised that the first openly gay character would appear in Endgame, and it turned out to be a cameo by director Mark Russo. Luckily for them, Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) might prove to be much more inclusive.
In a new trailer for the upcoming Eternals film, Marvel Studios finally unveiled its first onscreen queer couple—played by Brian Tyree Henry (Phastos) and Haaz Sleiman—in all of its 13 years. Even better, they have a kid.
Eternals is also primed to display the MCU’s first gay kiss, a moment that was first teased last year. “It’s a beautiful, very moving kiss,” Sleiman opened up in a statement published by IndieWire. “Everyone cried on set. For me, it’s very important to show how loving and beautiful a queer family can be… We’re always depicted as sexual or rebellious. We forget to connect on that human part.”
The film, directed by Chloé Zhao, follows a group of humanoid aliens as they attempt to safeguard the planet after it was unattended for a long time, which had left it vulnerable to another wipeout. It will arrive exclusively in theaters on November 5.
