Nike has teamed up with a Philippines-based nonprofit organization
Girls Got Game to reinvigorate multipurpose sporting courts in the hopes to help young girls safely navigate sport.
Situated at the Sacred Heart Academy School in Santa Maria, Bulacan, one indoor and one outdoor court were splashed with colorful new illustrations designed by Filipina illustrator
Jill Arteche.
These depict a diverse group of girls engaging with their ambitions and the world around them. In the outdoor court, themed ‘Now’, the girls are shown participating in sports like basketball, rugby, and volleyball, to name a few. Indoors, the ‘Future’ court is decorated with imagery of girls in creative, medical, and athletic careers.
The vibrant new courts were revealed on Monday, October 11, which is recognized as the International Day of the Girl.
Finally, our first home court 🏠
This International Day of the Girl, we’re proud to unveil the Girls Got Game ‘Home Court’ at Sacred Heart Academy, Sta Maria Bulacan, in partnership with @nike.
This will be a space where GGG coaches can continue to empower young Filipinas of the present and future, to be strong, free, and to dream big for the future 💪

“We hope to inspire the next generation of Filipina girls to view the refurbished courts as a symbol of their goals and dreams, and that accomplishing these, however small, is what brings a sense of achievement,” Jino Ferrer, country marketing manager at Nike Philippines, tells
Philstar.
Girls Got Game (GGG) regularly hosts sporting events for young girls who otherwise struggle to gain opportunities due to their families’ economic backgrounds.
This organization shares a common purpose with the sporting giant, explains managing director Mariana Lopa, which is to “move the world forward through sport.” She also says that GGG sees the girls “as the changemakers who have the power to improve their communities.”
The sports clinics hosted by GGG set out to coach the young participants not just in sport, but to build confidence and reach their full potential. This, it hopes, will help them to reach an equitable future.
