Tesla Code Hints At ‘Live Dashcam Streaming’ Feature To Protect EVs Remotely

Tesla’s vehicles come equipped with ‘Sentry Mode’, which takes video recordings of its surroundings just in case the vehicle incurs damage when the owner isn’t around.
In the past, recordings from Sentry Mode have proved useful to clear a Model Y of explosion accusations.
Now, it has been suggested that owners won’t even need to dig deep to uncover this footage following an undesirable event. In fact, they won’t even have to wait. Leaked code for developments to the Tesla mobile app shows that the company is adding a nifty new feature to Sentry Mode: Dashcam Live Streaming.
As you might be able to guess, owners will be able to use this feature to watch a live feed from the car’s surrounding cameras, allowing them to check up on the EV from any location at any time and watch footage of the vehicle, captured in real-time.
In total, four cameras are used: one in front, one on the back, and one on each side, noted by Benzinga. This covers pretty much all angles of the car, and creates fewer blind spots.
To further thwart a potential intruder, owners will also be able to project their voice from the car via speaking into the phone’s microphone.
Tesmanian reports that these additional security features might come to users in software update 2021.40.
This was discovered in a leaked segment of code by Twitter user teslascope on. Another new tidbit they mentioned was the ability for owners to save a clip of the live dashcam stream after watching it, which will come in handy in case of damage. However, it’s not stated if the material will be stored in the car’s USB, the phone’s camera roll, or both.
So when this comes to fruition, Tesla owners won’t even need to wait to discover damage after it has been done; there’s a chance for them to see what’s going on while it’s happening and stop it from going too far. Of course, they could prevent any harm being done to the precious EV before it even occurs.
