Google Meet Hosts Will Now Be Able To Shut Everyone Up In One Click

Most people have spent tons of time in video calls ever since the dawn of the pandemic, and there are few things as annoying as coworkers chatting over each other while you’re straining to keep track of what’s being said.
Google is finally doing something about those who just don’t know when to quit gabbing. The company has released a new feature that gives hosts on Google Meet the ability to mute everyone and anyone.
The tech giant says hosts will now have “more control of participant’s audio and video feeds for smoother, more productive meetings,” aka no more having to shush people every minute.
According to Mashable, when the lock is toggled on, hosts will be able to mute everyone in a meeting or turn off their videos. This will also prevent participants from turning on their cameras or unmuting themselves without permission.
If only certain participants are making most of the noise, hosts can selectively mute their audio or video output, just like how teachers put noisy students in “time out” in the classroom.
However, one downside to the feature is that those using an older version of Google Meet, which doesn’t support audio lock, could find themselves kicked out of meetings in which hosts toggle it on. Additionally, those who try to enter the meeting halfway may not be able to if their devices don’t support the new function.
The next time you’re invited to a Google Meet, be sure to stay on the host’s good side or you could just find yourself muted for the whole conversation.
