Marvel Studios’ Captain America Shield Goes Up For Auction In Superb Condition

A whole chapter closed when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) handed the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). Marvel Studios acknowledged this in Disney+’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, envisioning a whole museum exhibit remembering Rogers’ contributions to the world.
In this world, you’ll get a piece of Rogers’ history too. Pop culture auction house Hake’s Auctions is selling off an authentic Captain America shield from Avengers: Endgame, and the fact that it’s been so well-kept makes it all the more valuable.

While Marvel Studios went through 30 to 40 prop shields during production for the film, this one was designed for closeup hero shots. Its quality and appearance—with its “mesmerizing metallic sheen”—stood out from those of the usual throwaways, which were only meant for destructive action sequences and long shots.
The hero shield, measuring 24 inches in diameter, is constructed from high-density foam and a spun aluminum finish, with a bespoke leather arm and hand straps at the back. In its heyday, crew members took great care of it so that it could be used in numerous scenes, outliving the typical lifespan of one or two scenes of the other shields.

Despite its experience in stunt work, the shield maintains a “near pristine condition.” It only shows signs of “trace wear,” says Hake’s Auctions, with only ⅛-inch of the red paint being chipped off and “some very minor edge wear.”

Its legacy and condition have warranted a price of US$62,700 from nine bidders as of the time of publication. The auction will close on November 3.
“It is one of the most important Marvel film props to ever come to auction, both in terms of its iconic stature and its ironclad provenance,” describes the auctioneer’s president Alex Winter.
