Flatpack, Portable Cabin Invites The Woods Inside Instead Of Locking It Out

The phrase “cabin in the woods” may conjure up memories of the 2011 horror-comedy for some, or induce a nature-inspired feeling of relaxation and peace in others. For Dutch designer Caspar Schols, it’s definitely the latter, and we can all perhaps be grateful for that.
Schols has taken it one step further and flat-packed this tranquil fantasy for a convenient setup be it for work, living, or an escape from the rapidly-encroaching crypto-fueled metaverse.
Cabin ‘ANNA’ was designed to inspire its inhabitants by allowing them to connect with nature and “witness the most beautiful changes taking place outdoors.” It’s completely adjustable and adaptable to users’ needs through different “shells.”
With a glass-framed interior and wood-paneled exterior, its design allows for different layers of the house to be adjusted, with panels placed on rollers for quick and easy movement. When everything is completely retracted, the walls and roof create somewhat of a deck to allow its users to enjoy everything nature has to offer.
Or, if shelter is needed while still wanting to savor the great outdoors, everything can remain as is while removing the wooden panels. This creates a sunroom, leveraging the glass walls in all their glory. Of course, if the weather takes a turn for the unfriendly, the wooden panels can be quickly reinstated for full protection.

Natural materials are incorporated throughout this project, with sustainable Siberian larch wood and birch plywood making up the wooden elements and insulation delivered in the form of sawdust.
Rather than being built around “accommodation in a natural setting,” Schols set out to design something that would allow nature into the space, as opposed to creating a structure that separates the person from their surroundings. “It’s primarily about being outside, and about creating a dynamic interaction between yourself, Cabin ANNA as your home, and nature,” Schols explains to Inhabitat.
Two different models are available: ANNA Stay, designed for short-term or long-term living with different amenities included; and ANNA Meet, designed as a meeting destination for business and leisure alike.
ANNA Stay comes with a shower, toilet, bathtub, kitchen, and space for a couple of beds or couches. Heating can be added later on if the buyer so wishes, and its design can be taken to the next level with elements like a fire-heated boiler or solar energy integration for full off-grid functionality.

The Cabin ANNA “gives the freedom to live among an abundance of life, and cultivates a sense of belonging,” Schols continues. “You become part of everything around you, and I believe that everyone recognizes that feeling deeply from within.”
This gorgeous new design will be available in Europe and the US starting from early next year, although Schols has stated that it will also be coming to other continents at a later date.
