KAWS Lands In Singapore Embracing A Little Companion Of Its Own

The word “meta” simply cannot be thrown around enough. Come November 13, the famous KAWS Companion will greet onlookers in Singapore with its own mini-me in tow.
The sunny city-state will be the seventh destination of the traveling KAWS:HOLIDAY project, which has seen the mascot take up lodgings in public spaces. Since 2018, it has stopped in Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK, and even outer space, in a bid to make art accessible to the masses.
Despite being pretty well-traveled, Companion has brought a little Companion for comfort. This time around, the 42-meter-long (138-foot-long) sculpture is depicted in a reclined position and hugging a miniature version of itself, like a teddy bear.

KAWS’ Companion(s) will shake up the signature Singapore skyline at The Float @ Marina Bay, as part of a partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board and Hong Kong creative studio AllRightsReserved.

“At a time when international travel may be challenging for many, I am thankful for the opportunity through the ongoing HOLIDAY project to bring art experiences to different localities, and am excited to come to Singapore for the first time,” details the American street artist KAWS, whose real name is Brian Donnelly, in a press release.
As a special welcome, a collection of limited-edition collectibles has been created with exclusive Singapore branding. These include three colorways of a 10.5-inch Companion model in the same position, as well as 500 camping sets, tank tops, and fans. The series can be purchased on AllRightsReserved’s DDT Store at 11am Singapore time on November 13, 2021, the same day the public installation will open.
While Companion is just passing through, its presence will leave a lasting impression. The artwork will be the last-ever installation at The Float @ Marina Bay before the Singapore government closes it for redevelopment in March 2022.
