Older Apple MacBooks Have Been Bricking After Installing macOS Monterey

Last week, Apple released macOS Monterey as the latest version of its software, which came with an entire slew of new features. For instance, users can make use of a single mouse, trackpad, or keyboard across multiple Macs or iPads, and will now be able to AirPlay directly to a Mac from an iPhone.
However, numerous reports from users of older MacBooks have surfaced, alleging that the update bricked their laptops. According to MacRumors, such complaints also sprung up when macOS Big Sur was released.
So far, it seems newer Macs with Apple’s M1 chips haven’t been affected. And as per Tom’s Hardware, the publicly available macOS Monterey is currently at version 12.01, while 12.1 is still in beta testing.
Multiple posts on Apple Support Communities showed users reporting that upon updating their Mac to the new software, their laptops blacked out, and they were unable to switch them back on. Many users have also taken to social media to tweet @AppleSupport similar accounts.
While the company has yet to issue an official statement regarding the issue, it may release an update to fix whatever’s been causing problems for older Macs. Though, as a word of caution, it’s best not to update to next-generation software immediately when it’s released.
