NYC’s Next Mayor Wants Paychecks In Bitcoin, To Make City ‘Center Of Crypto’

Eric Adams, who was recently elected to take over as New York City Mayor from Bill de Blasio in January 2022, has announced he would accept his first three pay checks in Bitcoin.
Saying he wanted to make New York the “center of the cryptocurrency industry,” the mayor-elect is leading the way.
According to the BBC, at first, Francis Suarez, the re-elected Mayor of Miami, had promised to receive his first pay check in the digital token. Not to be outdone, Adams stretched the offer to not one, not two, but his first three pay checks at the helm.
“In New York we always go big, so I’m going to take my first three pay checks in Bitcoin when I become Mayor,” Adams wrote on Twitter.
“NYC is going to be the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing, innovative industries. Just wait!”
Edward Moya, a Senior Market Analyst at FX broker Oandam, told Reuters the mayor-elect’s announcement shows how much interest cryptocurrency has generated in recent times.
However, he cautioned that Adams may not be “a very influential person for swaying the people that are on the fence to join the cryptoverse.”
Well, if Adams has anything to do about it, he’s definitely gunning to be one of the city’s most prominent cryptocurrency ambassadors.
During his run up for the Democratic nomination in June, he vowed to turn the city into “the center of bitcoins” and “the center of all technology.”
