Bygone London Department Store Gets Turned Into Luxury Apartments & Hotel

London department store Whiteleys, once similar to Harrods and Selfridge’s, is now being turned into 139 luxury apartments, and will accommodate the country’s first Six Senses hotel.

The historic building, which opened nearly a century ago, had closed down back in 1981 but is finally ready to make a comeback this year. The extravagant residential apartments are now on sale, with each unit starting from US$2 million.

MARK and C C Land teamed up with Finchatton to work on the project, which will house dwellings ranging from one to five bedrooms in size. Of course, there will be penthouses on offer for the extra-affluent.

According to Robb Report, apart from the apartments, the building will be shared with the Six Senses hotel, of which there will be 110 rooms on offer for visitors, and 14 residences for long-term stays.

Residents will get to enjoy complimentary membership at the Six Senses Place, a brand-new social club, decked out with a restaurant, co-working spaces, private dining rooms, and wellness areas. The building will come with other amenities, including a fitness center, tennis court, and swimming pool.

As with most luxury apartments, the building is located right in the city center, just a stone’s throw away from Kensington Gardens. Restaurants and boutiques are touted to line the nearby streets, so residents don’t have to go far to find delectable food or daily essentials.
